1. Why transfer to DVD?
DVD is a
digital format that does not deteriorate with time, no matter how many
times you watch it. Using some care, DVDs will last many years. VHS or
analog video tape on the other hand deteriorates with each use, and
noticeably deteriorates after many years even if you do not watch them.
The same can be said of film stock.
DVD video
and audio are superior to VHS. DVD video provides users with video that
is twice as clear as VHS. DVD is capable of showing up to 500 lines of
horizontal resolution while VHS is limited to 240.
DVD
eliminates the need to fast forward and rewind to your favorite
moments. Chapter points are placed at 5 min intervals which allows you
to skip very quickly to a particular section.

2. Do you support dual layer DVD (DVD-9)
format?
Yes, we are
now offering dual layer DVDs that have a DVD+R DL format for an
additional fee. The dual layer DVD has been around for many years and
is quite reliable. Dual layer DVDs allow for up to 4 hours of quality
video on one DVD. In order to make the DVD compatible with most
players, we set the book type equal to DVD-ROM prior to burning. This
is the same book type setting that commercially released dual layer
DVDs have.

7. What does a Time Base Corrector (TBC) and
digital filter do?
Basically, it corrects some inherit problems
with capturing the video from analog tapes (VHS, Beta, S-VHS, VHS-C,
etc.). An analog tape moving passed a tape head will introduce a
certain amount of jitter from frame to frame. A TBC will stabilize this
signal electronically so that the frame to frame timing is rock solid
and thus eliminate any tearing of the final captured video. Digital
filtering will minimize any noise that is present in the analog signal
and thus give a much cleaner looking picture.
